Biography

Reverend (Rev for short) is a multifaceted Hip-Hop artist and renaissance man based in Florida. Writing music for over 20 years, Rev has released a wide array of music: 5 albums, 5 mixtapes, and 1 EP to date. He started his musical journey writing poetry in middle school. From there, his love for music led him to expand into Hip-Hop, releasing his projects on DatPiff, Soundcloud, and Bandcamp. His releases include the album trilogy, "Written In Stone" (2008), "It Was...Black Earth" (2009), and "I Am" (2011); the "Cool Nerd" 3 volume series (2010-2015), "25: The Mixtape" (2015), and "Mind Body Soul" (2019). From producing to recording, arranging to designing his graphics, Rev, often referring to himself as "one of the coolest nerds you'll ever meet", found himself overcoming limitations and doing it all to pursue his passion—to create on his own terms. His music explores topics that include love, masculinity/manhood, social injustices, personal growth, lyrical expositions, and identity while interweaving many of his nerdy interests (anime and gaming, included). His conceptual and stylistic influences range a gamut of music, from R&B, Neo Soul, and House to Electronic/Dance, Folk, Rock, and Alternative genres. Rev continues to build his catalog and creates music in, what he calls, an "Adult Contemporary Hip-Hop/Poetry" space. Currently, he's developing a poetry series, "Verses", with "Verses: Hope & Freedom" releasing August 2024. Visit marqmervin.com to learn more.
