Biography

"I'm just trying to express myself. Can you tell?" A veteran of the Edinburgh open-mic circuit, Omerati has captivated audiences around the world with major past performances in British Columbia, Thailand, Sudan and now London. Constantly engaging his audience in more questions than answers, the Manchester-born Sudanese-Canadian crooner leverages his provocative and resonant vocals while seamlessly fusing hip-hop and R&B. His musical centre is found in that voice: velveteen and dynamic, the sonic intersection of Frank Ocean and a well-rested Macy Gray. Omerati forges an emotional and intimate environment wherever he performs, simultaneously caring for and challenging his audience. The resulting experience is surprising yet inevitable. A globe-trotting musical renaissance man fluent in old-school rap and songwriting, Omerati has an ear that is seemingly magnetized to groove. Omerati's strengths lie in his introspection and unique identity, tactfully peppering his repertoire with his native Arabic. His less-is-more approach and penchant for world-music invites meaningful collaboration, which he masterfully demonstrates as a key-contributor on the popular fundraising single, Beautiful Souls, which he co-released with Rahim and SimplyAzza in support of Barana Hanabneiho. Omerati was a featured break-out artist on BBC Radio 1xtra, where he debuted his hit-single, Tea, from his latest EP, Madiba Road. Written by RPH
