Biography

Benjamin III is a South African musician based in Johannesburg. Following in the footsteps of his father, Benjamin Dube, a renowned gospel artist, he stepped into the music industry at the age of 12 as part of the trio called the Dube Brothers, along with his two older siblings. After releasing their debut album Step Up, they went on to share a second record and toured extensively across the country, gaining valuable experiences. The multifaceted artist sees music as a lens through which he can make sense of the world, address societal issues, and express untold stories. Benjamin III finds inspiration in the human experience and draws from his own instances as well as observing and empathizing with the journeys of others. Although he considers all of his releases to be special, some of his significant singles include "Rose Petals," "Woman," and "Gracefully Gone." Several artists have influenced Benjamin III, including Michael Jackson, Miriam Makeba, Lauryn Hill, Fela Kuti, Tupac Shakur, and Kendrick Lamar. He admires them not just for their global acclaim but for their craftsmanship and ability to transcend music and deliver powerful messages through their art. His latest release is an EP called Wounds, inspired by a line from Kendrick Lamar's Section.80, the record takes listeners on an internal journey. The intention behind it is to encourage people to show their pain and use the music as a tool for healing and processing their own experiences.
