Italian Baroque Trumpet Music

Biography

Pallavicino was an Italian composer of opera who served both the cities of Venice and Dresden at the same time although one can assured that Venice remained Carlo's favorite. He served as an organist in Padua but left that position when his first opera was staged in Venice. He scored twenty four operas and only one was not produced. "Vespasiano," which was staged in Venice in 1678, was one of Pallavicino's most popular operas. Characteristically his melodic lines were refreshingly new and inspired and he employed the use of the da capo aria rather than writing mere songs. Oratorios and sacred works were also composed by Carlo who was a Kapellmeister in Dresden as well as the director of music for the theatre and for chamber works. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
