Biography

“No Frontiers” was the title of an extraordinary collection of songs Barb Jungr performed for the 65th Anniversary of Souvenir Press at The Royal College of Music Theatre; it would be equally applicable to the superb singer herself. Barb Jungr defies categories. As Glam Adelaide recently quipped about her, “It’s as if Edith Piaf and Nick Cave had a lovechild who was adopted by Carmen McCrae.”
And it can certainly be said of her new collection, Bob, Brel, and Me, which premiers May 2019 at Purcell Rooms, South Bank Centre, and at the Brighton Festival in May, with an album release on Kristalyn/Absolute in September and a national tour throughout autumn 2019 and spring 2020. In Bob, Brel, and Me, Jungr explores new translations of Jacques Brel classics and presents previously untranslated works, with new arrangements of Dylan songs she has longed to do, alongside new material of her own. With a cast of top musicians, this eagerly awaited collection is already attracting attention.
“Brings the same creativity for reinterpretation and re-examination that Ella Fitzgerald brought to Cole Porter.” Wall Street Journal
“Bob Dylan, jazz, northern soul, Nina Simone and continental Europe’s cabaret music perform a subtle dance in Jungr’s consciousness.” The Guardian
“The brilliant jazz singer on world-beating form. Barb Jungr proves she’s a genuine jazz marvel... A true musical alchemist. She is truly a marvel, who should not be missed” ★★★★ The Telegraph
