Biography

Nico Segal is a trumpeter, composer, and producer whose genre-defying career has made him a standout voice in modern music. Born and raised in Chicago, Segal emerged as a founding member of the GRAMMY-winning collective The Social Experiment, where he co-created groundbreaking projects like Surf (2015) under the moniker Donnie Trumpet and contributed to Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book. In addition to his collaborative achievements, Segal is a co-creator of Intellexual, an introspective duo project with longtime collaborator Nate Fox. Intellexual blends art pop, jazz, and cinematic influences, further demonstrating Segal’s penchant for innovation and sonic exploration. Segal is also a founding member of The JuJu Exchange, a jazz-forward ensemble that merges improvisation with elements of hip-hop and electronic music. With The JuJu Exchange, Segal has continued to redefine what modern jazz can be, crafting compositions that speak to both the head and the heart. Whether leading his own projects or lending his trumpet and production to artists like Kanye West and Vic Mensa, Segal’s work is defined by its emotional depth and boundary-pushing creativity. His career reflects a commitment to building bridges between musical worlds, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and visionary artist.
