Biography

Michele Marelli is worldwide renowned as a basset horn virtuoso and as one of the leading clarinetists of his generation. He is recipient of several international competitions such as the Penderecki Competition in Krakow, the Valentino Bucchi in Rome, the "Una vita nella musica" in Venice, 6 times winner of the Stockhausen Foundation Award, etc. He has performed as soloist with such orchestras as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the SWR Orchester, the Hilversum Filharmonik, ORT, OPV in the most important contemporary music festivals (Donaueschingen, Festival d'automne, Tanglewood, Huddersfield, Biennale di Venezia, Wien Modern to name a few). After 10 years of close work with Karlheinz Stockhausen, he has collaborated with the most important composers of our time, most of them have written especially for Marelli (Ivan Fedele, Marco Stroppa, György Kurtág, Helmut Lachenmann, Salvatore Sciarrino, Franco Donatoni, Stefano Gervasoni and many others). He is a Decca Classics artist and a Henri Selmer Paris and Buffet Crampon clarinet artist. He is Professor of Clarinet and Bass Clarinet at the Conservatorio "Antonio Vivaldi" in Alessandria.
