Lake Lustre is Joe Scerri — a British born Maltese-Australian electronic artist based in Fremantle Australia. He produces a unique brand of melancholic, cinematic electronica that captures the curiosities, changes and chaos of life. Joe's music channels filmic atmospheres with a distinctly emotive feel, these are broad, shifting soundscapes that move between dark and light, the witty and the gritty. Living in the most remote large city in the world, Perth — surrounded by endless desert landscapes, rocky coastlines, the open sea and Jarrah forests — this has a direct influence in his work. There’s a poetic narrative, brooding intent, night drive feels and neon bleached atmosphere, all swirling with moments of triumph; the music is somehow soaked in melancholy and hope at the same time. Joe Scerri takes on the music, producing and lyrical duties. He has worked with vocalists Peta Morris, Tanya Lee Smith and Inga Liljeström and guitarist Robert Moor. There’s echoes of influences coursing through the new material; Royksopp, Bonobo, Plaid, Trentemøller, Portishead, BOC and Thom Yorke. The outcome is contemporary, poignant and utterly distinct. With four studio albums released; Indecipherabilia (2004), Mountain Math (2010), In Ruins We Sleep (2023), and the recently released instrumental album The Flotsam Spectrum (2024). The latter half of 2024 will see a compilation celebrating 20 years since the first release, including demos, unreleased, remastered, remixed and new songs.
