Biography

Praveen Prathapan (born 28 February 1995), known by his stage name The Flute Guy, is an English Indian/Sri-Lankan musician. He has been described as one of the most versatile flute players in the world. 
 Raised in the UK by a family of Bharatanatyam dancers, Praveen was introduced to the instrument by his father, has received advanced training from the late Dr N. Ramani, and has now spent over 18 years working extensively in Blues, Bollywood, Carnatic, Hindustani, Indie, Jazz, Pop, Qawwali, Tamil Cinema, and Western Classical music. 
 In 2017, Praveen created the stage name ‘The Flute Guy’, and has since garnered almost 10 million views on his Facebook and YouTube videos. Praveen has also appeared on Zee TV, Reprezent Radio, and the BBC, and has delivered hundreds of performances around the world, at prestigious venues including Times Square, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and Buckingham Palace. In 2018 alone, Praveen has collaborated with Kanika Kapoor, Cheryl, Rukmini Vijayakumar, Emeli Sandé, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Naughty Boy, and Kavita Krishnamurthy, and is currently developing new projects with Classic FM Radio Orchestra. 
 Holding a First Class Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford, Praveen has worked at both Harvard University in Boston and at the NASA Ames Research Center in California. Finally, at 23 years old, Praveen is also a trained vocalist, mridangam player, and composer.
