Biography

Black Morris (who's real name is Kevin Ansong) is a well-regarded musician with tremendous convening power, who is an influential voice in Greek civil society. He has risen rapidly through Greece’s ranks of emerging musicians to become one of the country’s most unique artists. He has been featured in interviews in local and international media, including Liberation, Deutche Welle, Wire Magazine, Vogue Greece, and BBC. Kevin worked closely with Grammy-winning American music producer Christopher King for his recent album “THRASOS” (loosely translated as “audacity”). He blends effortlessly his Greek identity with his Ghanaian roots on themes of belonging and identity. His recent album is a fusion of hip hop - with traditional Greek folk music from Epirus and Asia Minor, creating a new sound of “Trabetiko,” which symbolizes integration and reconciliation of his two heritages. His artistic name "Νέγρος Του Μοριά" is also a playful nod to Greek history, using a word that refers to one of the great figures of the Greek war of independence, T. Kolokotronis. As a testament to the range of his talents and the breadth of his audience, Black Morris has recently ventured into acting and held a starring role in the 2023 movie “Black Stone,” which won several awards in international festivals. He has also worked in theater, performing at the National Theater of Greece, and the Athens and Epidaurus Festival. He has also been featured in TV series and hosted a TV music show in 2020.
