They are taken from the last volume of DIRK BLEESE's "jazz piano 1-5", published by Universal Edition Vienna. Each arrangement consists of an introduction, a theme section and a notated improvisation. "jazz piano 1-5" are based on ten compositions arranged in five volumes according to the musical and piano technical requirements. They offer performance pieces for all ages and levels of difficulty from 1st student concerts to competition or exam entries, as well as ideas and instructions for improvisation, teaching and demonstration material for challenging jazz piano lessons. "jazz piano 1, 2 & 3" start from the very first piano playing and contain small performance pieces, finger and rhythm exercises and improvisation instructions. "jazz piano 4" contains performance pieces and harmonic-formal studies for the intermediate level of playing. Dirk Bleese was born in Hamburg in 1968. He studied jazz piano pedagogy at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin with Walter Norris and David Friedman. He has worked as a jazz soloist and teacher, musical director at spoken word and musical stages, as a composer/arranger, and as the initiator of numerous festivals and concert series.
