Biography

Halloween is when Dora Lachaise comes into her own. It’s the time of year when her love of Victorian cemeteries, 19th Century ghost stories, the mysterious and the macabre align with the thinning of the veil. Dora has been writing and producing tracks since 2020, when her debut single, Bone Collector, appeared, about the haunting of the British Museum. She has since ventured into experimental electronica with her Mary Magdalene-inspired track I Confess in 2021 and released a series of duets with Jonni Slater in 2023. Dora’s releases are characterised by her beautiful, clear vocals, unusual chords and otherworldly atmospheres. Musical influences range from Danny Elfman soundtracks to Sevdaliza's downtempo electronica and Portishead’s trip hop. Red Door is Dora’s malicious new single about a haunted house, from the perspective of the house. She wrote it on a residential SongSeeds songwriting retreat at a grand Edwardian country house in Perth whilst sitting in its turret. The house, with its many bedrooms, dark corridors, cobwebs and long history directly inspired the song. Other sources of inspiration are the exquisite Nextflix series The Haunting of Hill House and Stephen King’s bloodthirsty Rose Red. Dora will celebrate the release of Red Door at Halloween: Darktronica at the Rum Shack in Glasgow on 31 October.
