Biography

Also known as "Le Gooster" and "DJ Goo," Goo was born Nguxi de Carvalho in Geneva at the end of the '60s. With Angolan ancestry and heavily influenced by music at a young age, by 11 Goo was spinning vinyl. In 1987, he purchased a Technics 1200 for his first turntable. After moving to the United States to study architecture, Goo became a household name in San Diego's dance circles in 1991. The following year, he returned to Switzerland and created a group called Tribe Vibes. Mixing dance with touches of jazz and hip-hop, Goo joined Silent Majority in 1993. The group released three albums as well as an EP while fostering a devoted fan base. In 1994, Goo performed at New York's New Music Seminar and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. Goo's first important creation was establishing the Five Star Galaxy, a collective of artists who released albums on its own label. In 1996, he released his debut effort, Zig Zag Zen. He also appeared on various dance album compilations in Europe and North America. In 1999, Goo formed his own label, Synchrovision. In 2000, Goo released Fractal Abstraction while opening for groups like the Roots, Gang Starr, and De La Soul. In 2001, he released Elements. He has performed at various DJ events and has been a regular host at the famed Blue Note in England. His sound has been compared to the likes of DJ Krush. ~ Jason MacNeil, Rovi
