Michael Begg is an award winning composer and sound artist, based in East Lothian, Scotland. He has released 14 albums of original music and has performed live in the UK, Poland, France, Spain, Italy, Ireland and Mexico. He is an Associate Artist at The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, and has held residencies with the European Marine Board, the Ocean ARTic Partnership, and the Mexican Centre for Music and Sound Art, and has delivered commissions from the National Trust for Scotland, Cryptic Sonica, Scottish National Galleries, the BBC and others. He won the New Music Scotland Award for Sound Art in 2018, for his composition, TITAN, a Cryptic commission for Sonica. Michael received a Connected Innovator Award in 2020 for his pioneering work in developing software to enable the translation of research data into sound in order to create new forms of music to raise awareness and engagement with critical issues in climate sustainability. In 2021, he was an invited member of the delegation representing Scotland at the international Classical:NEXT conference in Hannover, Germany. He is the musical director of Black Glass Ensemble. The Ensemble was featured in a two day showcase, Black Glass In Pieces, in the Made In Scotland showcase at the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe.
