Take a glimpse of our sit down at her video shoot at The Kre8 Place. “I always loved music as a kid.”, she adds. “I used to sing in the choir.” A little kid with big dreams, grew into a solid artist with star power. In her adolescent years, MC shifted her interest from sports to songwriting. “I played basketball, I had more focus on that.”, she recalls. “Then later, I started to take music more serious.” MzUnderstud says her mom inspired her to shoot for the stars, along with musical inspiration from rapper/MC, Wiz Khalifa. “He got me writing a lot.” “The first song I did was called “Subliminal” to a Drake beat. It was kind of a diss track.” Rebranded and renamed, MzUnderstud (formerly known as D Hood) began her rap career dropping “trap” music. “I’m older now. I can’t keep doing that type of stuff.”, she explains. “So now I do songs on stuff I’m going through. If I’m in my feelings, I’ll write about it. If I get motivated by someone or something, I’ll write about it.” The artist is focused on growing her catalog, and organic fanbase. “My goal is to have solid recognition. I’m not trying to be the most famous. I just want a solid fanbase who like listening to me.”
