In his work, Kai Whiston blurs the lines between artist, producer, and creative force. Since his first releases at 15, he quickly gained attention from figures such as Mary Anne Hobbs, Flying Lotus, and Anthony Fantano. After a series of SoundCloud uploads and live sets for Boiler Room and i-D Magazine, Whiston signed with Ninja Tune in 2017, releasing 'Fissure Price EP' while still in secondary school. Whiston's multi-dimensional approach shines in his studio albums, notably the 2022 'Quiet As Kept, F.O.G.', which explores rave music under the lens of his complex family history and the New Age Traveller community. This album earned spots in year-end lists from The Quietus, The Wire, and Crack Magazine, and Whiston was named a Dazed100 honouree. Defying easy categorisation, Whiston's work spans from the genre-bending bass antics of 'Kai Whiston Bitch' (2018) to the deconstructed experimental rock allure of 'No World As Good As Mine' (2019). His music thrives in a state of raw sonic expression, underpinned by collaborations with artists such as SOPHIE, Shygirl, COUCOU CHLOE, VTSS, A. G. Cook, and Iglooghost. In 2020, Whiston founded Lux Cache, an educational platform fostering next-generation talent. Collaborating with peers and institutions like Ableton, New York University, and BIMM, Lux Cache bridges Whiston's artistry with the wider creative ecosystem.
