Biography

Strange Adonis is a self-produced artist and songwriter based in Los Angeles. Born of mixed Persian and Ashkenazi heritage, Strange's upbringing in South Africa, and subsequently North Carolina, fated him early on to an outsider's perspective. His music emerges from the fringes, a kaleidoscope of eclectic influences and irreverent humor––absurd, twisted, and wholly unapologetic. In his hands, sound becomes a conversation between the playful and the profound, always unexpected, yet undeniably his own. Strange's lyricism balances evocative musicality and depth with a whimsically wry approach to the topics he explores—often filtered through the lens of his experiences with living on the margins and dealing with zoonotic diseases. Moments of bizarre wisdom and lived experience punctuate his otherwise pathological resistance to taking anything too seriously, while his subject matter ranges from tongue-in-cheek social satire to a psych-folk adaptation of Dante's Inferno. His worldview comes across in the instrumentation of his songs, which speak more to his idiosyncratic personality, wide array of influences, and provocative sense of humor than to any particular genre. Sonically modern and distinctly groovy, his compositions possess a characteristic playfulness and eccentricity that is frequently balanced by dark, horror-tinged undertones.
