Daniel de Souza Mendes is a composer, guitarist and music educator based in São Paulo (Brasil). His first official record is TOCA, an EP with three compositions written and played by him, released in 2020. His single Mói - a work composed by Bruno Angelo - was released in 2021. His performances are focused on contemporary music for solo classical guitar and since 2017 he has premiered more than fifteen pieces. As a composer, he writes music for solo guitar and for mixed ensembles. His music has been performed at venues across Brazil. In 2016, he participated as an e-guitarist and composer for the debut album by Amao Quartet entitled Improcreations which received strong reviews from critics, and was nominated for three categories of the Prêmio Açorianos (2017/2018) in Porto Alegre, RS. Between 2016-2019, he recorded the albums Conduction BR#5 and Caixa Preta Vol. 1 with free improvisation orchestra “SPIO Orquestra”. Daniel has a duo called Manufaturados with the composer and guitarist Rafael Salib, and the e-guitar duo Discórdio, with the composer Martin Herraiz. Daniel holds a title of Doctor in Musical Artes (UFRGS), a Master in Music Theory (UNESP), and a Bachelor’s in Classical Guitar Performance (UERGS). Since 2016, he has taught guitar and music theory lessons in Sao Paulo and works as a freelance guitarist through his company Violão Clássico e Cia. Spotify picture by Roberta Gomes.
