Biography

Having spent 2019 travelling London by boat, busking, writing, and recording, Rhys Messenger recently burst onto the scene with his debut EP Change, a brand of unique pop rock coloured with inflections of the progressive rock of the 60's. Currently based in the North London area, Rhys has been playing shows to thousands at a time around London last year; the highlights of which are Allianz Park Saracens rugby stadium, a publicity stunt concert on top of a boat next to the London West Ham Stadium, and Waltham Abbey's town hall balcony overlooking their bustling Cavalcade Of Lights switch on ceremony. Primarily, Rhys Messenger is solo artist focusing on live looping, which is a method used by artists all over the world like Ed Sheeran and KT Tunstall to create a fuller soundscape. This consists of recording sound clips live on stage (known as loops) and playing over the top of them to build up a sound that is thicker and more dynamically varied than singing and playing guitar alone. Rhys has been focusing recently on moving this method onto software looping to open up a world of possibilities with automated sound effects and lightshows. His recently released EP has sparked the writing bug which has now led to the beginning of the writing of his debut album, which is set to be a full length concept album about the messages mankind receives from one another, and how it influences the way we live our lives. This is expected to be released early next year, so stay tuned!
