Junk Science is Baje One on raps and SNAFU on beats. Dudes met in high school in Brooklyn in 1996 (after Baje stole some homemade beat tapes from Snafu’s backpack). The two became friends and started doing rap experiments immediately. In 2003 they moved in together and started working on Feeding Einstein, an album described by URB as “simply superb”. In 2005, their track Roads won a Scion song contest, a victory that connected them to video director Andrew Gura and eventually to DJ Ese of Brooklyn label Embedded, who released Feeding Einstein in 2005. Einstein’s success led Junk Science to Defintive Jux, who released Gran'dad's Nerve Tonic in 2007. In promotion of the record, the duo teamed up with Sixpoint Craft Ales to create a limited-edition beer: the GNT. In 2010, after Def Jux closed, Baje started Modern Shark. The first release on the label: A Miraculous Kind of Machine, an album that The New Yorker praised for its “old-school beats and clever rhymes…and a rewarding, wiser-than-their-years approach”. In 2011, Junk Science teamed with Scott Thorough to release Phoenix Down, a record with beats played on 8-bit synthesizers. They released Phoenix Down as a custom-molded USB drive in the shape of a “pixelated” feather. Baje and Snaf released their latest LP And the Hundred Dollar Sandwich in 2015 on their birthday: March 15th. Oh yeah, they both have the same birthday. Weird, right? To answer your question, Snafu is older.
