Hughdem is an alt-rap artist from Hampshire with pensive, sincere lyrics and eclectic production styles. Fusing modern hip hop sound palettes with introspective, heartfelt writing, witty punchlines and smooth flows. Making music for the misfits and Martians. He cut his teeth in the rap scene with rap battles, cyphers and underground shows in Southampton, playing locally and dropping tracks on Soundcloud. He’s always taken inspiration from sentimental artists such as Childish Gambino, Mac Miller and Kid Cudi, and conscious MC’s of the 90’s like A Tribe Called Quest and The Roots, using rap to express vulnerable emotions and tell stories. He started his journey as a dedicated producer during Covid – locked into his bedroom studio set-up, starting an online remix series, and studying the work of other producers like 40, J Dilla, Kanye and Burial. Instrumental styles range from bass-heavy trap/grime to soulful sampling and moody, reversed soundscapes. His bars draw upon personal experiences and feelings, with lyrics ranging from braggadocious raps to sensitive, relatable rhymes about quests for self-improvement, mental health, love and chasing dreams.
