to the core. thank you for being here :) 🤍 25-year-old producer and artist Hemai, originally from Birmingham and now based in London, blends electronica production through an alternative and contemporary jazz-influenced lens. Growing up listening to artists and bands predominantly from Brazil and Japan, this remains a huge influence on his music as-well as the IDM/electronica scene and folk music. Hemai gained recognition with his debut 2019 EP "Eyes, Closed" receiving upfront support from BBC Radio 1 & 6, closely followed up by his official remix of Oscar Jerome's "Gravitate", earning him a spot on BBC Introducing's Hot List. In 2021, he released his debut album 'Strange Beauty' on the legendary UK record label Tru Thoughts, featuring 10 genre-less tracks with international vocal collaborations alongside drum performances from his brother Sam Hemus. In late 2022, he dropped his second EP, "Leisure Trip," via UK label Well Overdue Records, showcasing more emotionally charged tracks than ever with help from guest artists Quinn Oulton, B-ahwe, Neone The Wonderer and Anushka’s Victoria Port. Hemai went to host monthly improvised sessions in Brixton to Hackney and performs across stages in the UK like Latitude Festival, Lost Village Festival, Mostly Jazz Festival, The Jazz Cafe both as a live artist and a DJ. Hemai is simultaneously crafting his forthcoming projects and producing for other talents behind the scenes.
