Biography

Bound together by lifelong friendship and shared experience for more than 25 years, the Fisherman’s Friends have met on the Platt in Port Isaac to raise money for charity, singing traditional songs of the sea. A decade ago, they were persuaded to sign a million-pound record deal that saw their album Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends go Gold as they became the first ever traditional folk act to land a UK top ten album. They’ve sung for royalty, played the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival, Twickenham Stadium during half-time of England v Australia, Cannes Film Festival and many more. In 2019 ‘Fisherman’s Friends’ a movie based on the group’s discovery and record deal was released. It was a hit, taking nearly 10 million at the box office. 2022 saw the release of the 2nd movie ‘Fisherman’s Friends One And All’, following the group from the highs of starring on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, through the lows of struggling to make a 2nd album. There is also, Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical which is currently touring the UK. The Fisherman’s Friends are lobster fisherman Jeremy Brown, writer/ shopkeeper Jon Cleave, smallholder and engineer John ‘Lefty’ Lethbridge, builder John McDonnell (a Yorkshireman who visited Port Isaac more than 30 years ago and never left), Padstow fisherman Jason Nicholas and filmmaker Toby Lobb.
