Biography

Founded in 2017 by the Danish sea, Ima Nuori is a band that is unfiltered. Tonal opulence goes hand in hand with unagitated straightforwardness and adds a soundtrack to the often sung about feeling of being seen, about freedom and autonomy. How does it sound, the Danish sea? And how does it sound, the emancipation from expectation? From a distance of 1300 kilometers, an experimental pop-duo dares to break down the borders. It has been ten years since multi-instrumentalist and cellist, Christina Ruf, and singer, Petra Steinkogler, have performed on stage together. It was not just any stage, but with their first band Soundzoo they played on stage of the Wiener Donauinselfest. Ruf is well-known through her collaboration with the Indie band Hearts Hearts and has only recently released her third album TØ as a solo artist. Since 2017, the two long-term friends Ruf and Steinkogler have been developing their own sound, at first acoustically reduced to cello and singing, and today through digital exchange and e-mail conversations between Austria and Denmark. The duo designs lavish musical formations, whose instrumentalization is almost completely created by Ruf herself and where the interlacing of sounds is in the foreground. Ima Nuoris’ music demands relentless honesty, it’s intense: powerful and fragile at the same time. Steinkogler’s voice permanently guides us through the tonal density composed by Ruf, and challenges us to liberate ourselves from expectations.
