Etty Lau Farrell is an increasingly rare combination in the modern world: a virtuosic triple threat renowned as a dancer, actor, and singer. The Los Angeles-based polymath might be best known for her collaborations in Satellite Party and the Kind Heaven Orchestra alongside her husband, rock legend, Perry Farrell, but her career has been replete with many other highly creative turns. Born in Hong Kong, Farrell and her family moved to Bellevue Washington when she was 10 years old. Drawn to the arts from an early age, she trained as a classical ballerina at the Royal Academy of Dance’s Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Cornish College of the Arts. Before she could get acclimated to L.A. life, Lau Farrell’s career began to soar. There were acting roles and stints dancing with Madonna, Ricky Martin, and Bon Jovi. She was also tabbed to be in the original iteration of the Pussycat Dolls revue that started at The Viper Room. Then beginning with 1997’s Relapse Tour, she toured as a dancer with Jane’s Addiction. A philanthropist and generous spirit at her core, Lau Farrell is always actively seeking charities to align herself with. And with the rise in violence against Asian-America, she has begun to extend herself to non-profit endeavours on that front. In her life and art, Lau Farrell consistently applies a kindness and ecstatic approach, projecting an understated power that gracefully complements her outsized talent.
