Cuban-born Ley Alejandro decided to pursue a singing career in 1990, even when he achieved an English teaching degree from Havana's José Martí School. After participating in a Cuban threesome, he joined tropical group NG la Banda, asking for political asylum while touring the U.S. Ley Alejandro signed up to BMG in 1997, recording his debut album, called Gracias, which featured a cover of the classic Latin song "Malagueña Sanerosa." He climbed the charts in 1999 with "Desesperadamente Enamorado." Alejandro returned in 2001 with Sentir Amor. ~ Drago Bonacich, Rovi
