Flashback: Somewhere in time. The mid-noughties, to be precise. Somewhere in London. Camden, to be precise. The Bangs, after approximately one gig, went into the studio to record a demo, luckily somebody left the tape running. Now the entire recording has been re-discovered and re-mastered over by Nub Records’ Mark Lee. Nine tales of urban life, nine tales about drinking and womanising and love and loss as it was lived by songwriter Paul Jones then in his mid-30’s in and around Camden. It’s his story and the story of the people he knew, members of the band, friends and enemies. recordings. Flashforward: 2017. After years in the musical wilderness, Paul suffered a massive, life-threatening double stroke. That led to three months of hospital treatment and then many more months of painstaking rehab from which he is now remarkably almost fully recovered! Anything’s possible! The Bangs may be long gone but their music remains. The band split up almost immediately after the recordings. Line-up changes, money, the usual and then kids for some, marriage for others… Maybe one day they’ll return. Older and maybe a tad wiser.
