Biography

Assohoun - born Pierre-Albert Assohoun Aime in 1978 of an Ivorian father and a mother from Martinique - grew up in Côte d’Ivoire in a music loving family where he was introduced to the Jazz greats, the African classics and the Caribbean music. He is a self taught saxophone and player and music producer He studied at ESC Bordeaux and Harvard Business School and pursued a career in Investment Banking which kept him away from music for a while but gave him the opportunity to travel extensively living in Paris, London, Boston, Amsterdam, Johannesburg and Nairobi. Back in Côte d’Ivoire in 2012, while still working in banking he reconnects with music and meets talented local musicians playing frequent gigs in the vibrant Jazz scene in Abidjan. Assohoun's music unequivocally relates to his home heritage and unapologetically embraces urban rhythms. The eclectic journey takes the listener to the crossroads of Jazz and African music. It is the soundtrack of a new African generation proud of its heritage, confident in its future and open to the world. His self-produced debut album "L'Enfant Noir" draws inspiration from his long autodidact journey and his extensive travelling. It was entirely composed, recorded, arranged and mixed in his home studio in Abidjan. Following the debut album, the EP "L'Enfant Noir (The Remixes)" was released in Jan 2021. It revisits some of his previous work and opens a series of releases scheduled for this year.
