Biography

Åsmund Reistad (b. 1969) is a Norwegian guitarist and composer who has been a part of the Norwegian folk music scene for more than twenty years. He has played alongside many of the best-known musicians in the country. Åsmund has focused on reviving Norwegian folk music by combining it with elements from other genres and arranging it in new ways. He released his debut solo album 89% FOLKEMUSIKK in 2021, a record that consists of his own compositions based on traditional Norwegian dances. Despite his deep respect for the folk music tradition, his gentle yet distinct use of elements from other genres shines through. Here is what FolkWorld wrote about 89% FOLKEMUSIKK: «…fixing treasures from the Norwegian tradition in fresh settings». Åsmund Reistad has played an impressive number of concerts and contributed to a multitude of recordings, leaving his mark as a performer with an extensive technical range and a unique musical style. He also sings and plays the mandola and is a very competent bass player. New soloalbum will be released in April 2024!
