Biography
Yiğit Mert Erkmen was born in 1995 in İzmir. He studied piano at Işılay Saygın Fine Arts High School between 2009 and 2013. He was accepted to Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory Composition Department in 2014. He studied composition with Hatıra Ahmedli Cafer, Turgay Erdener, Metin Munzur, piano with Güherdal Çakırsoy and graduated in 2021 as a high honor student. During his undergraduate education, he had the opportunity to attend workshop and masterclasses of composers such as Yiğit Aydın, Emre Sihan Kaleli, Paul Patterson, Onur Türkmen, Hasan Uçarsu and Tolga Yayalar. In 2017, he was awarded the honorable mention at the 1st Polyphonic Choral Music Composition Competition organized by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He has also been a student at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in Budapest with the Erasmus program between 2018-2019, where he studied orchestral conducting with Serei Zsolt and free composition with Fekete Gyula. In 2022 he won the first prize in the category of violoncello and piano duo at the Kadıköy Municipality Süreyya Opera National Composition Competition, which was held for the sixth time. He is still continuing his master's education at Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory Composition Department studying with Ebru Güner Canbey.
