Grimmates was founded in 2013 in Sicily, by producer Angelo Russo (Ssick), and vocalists/musicians Fabio Longo (Peloquinn) and Emiliano Cinquerrui (Smegma Bovary), as a spooky electronic improv trio. Following two years of gigs, Grimmates released an eponymous, song-oriented EP. Shortly after, the band dissolved due to Angelo moving to London. In 2018 Angelo re-assembled the group in the UK recruiting vocalist Phillip Raymond Goodman and theremin guru Sam Enthoven. In the following years the band released London System EP, the Music Video for the track MonstroCity and performed live. In this era the group adopted a distinctive look (white masks & black hoodies) and a disco & trip-hop influenced sound. In 2021 Grimmates released the Music Video for the track Shopping Is Boring (feat. MC Driweave) and announced the Space Jazz LP, out on 21.8. The album, influenced by jazz & krautrock, features seven guests (including The Energy Fool, Zelt, Rosie Okae and Graham "Dids" Dowdall a.k.a. Gagarin of avant-rock legends Pere Ubu). In 2023 Grimmates released LIV3, a live album containing the new track Space Bar Noir. LIV3 celebrates 10 years of the group, and features Justin Paton, MC Driweave, Maestro Venezia.
