Rhys Toms P.K.A Black Summer, is a 19 year old artist from Canberra, Australia. Black Summer was “unearthed” by Triple J in 2015 when Rhys was only 11 years old with Triple J naming him “Australia’s Youngest Producer”. This initial spotlight led to national TV appearances on Channel 10’s “The Project” as well as Channel 9’s Children’s Hospital Telethon. Black Summer released his first single “Young Like Me” in 2017 on Tekzenmusic, a small indie label owned by fellow Australian Chris “TEK” O’Ryan. It debuted at #2 on the AIR chart and quickly gained traction as it was added to rotation on Triple J and subsequently saw some airplay in the UK on BBC’s Radio One. It also captured the ear of some high profile music supervisors leading to several TV sync placements, most notably on Channel 9’s “The Block”. 2018 saw Black Summer broadening his musical scope into Hip-Hop and Trap with the release of Big Dreams featuring rappers from the US and Australia. In the same year, Toms was featured on the docs-series “Enfant Prodige” produced by TV5 Canada. The series featured young prodigies from around the world who were excelling in their field. The series was subsequently shown in many French speaking countries around the globe.
