When he moved from Portland to Boise in 2015, it was as if Marcus Hathcock (aka MH Eternal) left behind his ability to process his feelings and the world. He couldn’t seem to write a song. Weeks after the move, he recorded his debut EP, the critically acclaimed Songs For Tomorrow, full of songs he'd written up to a decade prior. But new songs were gone, and the silence was deafening. What finally ended the nearly five-year songwriting drought was change, pain and loss — the likes of which caused reexamination of every area of his life. “I didn’t make all the right decisions,” MH shares. “I hurt people, and people hurt me. But pain is an opportunity to learn, to change, to become more humble and honest and kind." It was in the lowest place of his life that the songs returned, now reflected in the brand new EP, I’M NOT DEAD. Produced by rising NW producer Jake Nielsen of Gage Street Studios, I'M NOT DEAD is musically intriguing, lyrically sharp and courageously honest. The four new songs include the fragile “Loss For Words”, aggressive “These Glass Houses”, declarative “Find Myself” and exhaling “No Gravity". Gone are the video game synth pulses of Songs For Tomorrow, replaced by a more earthy, accessible pop. “I’ve changed a lot since the last EP,” MH shares. “And even the way this record sounds reflects that. As a human, I’ve gone from being loud and synthetic to a little more vulnerable and exposed.”
