Biography

Pavel Urkiza, an acclaimed Cuban musician, composer, producer, and arranger, was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and raised in Havana during the Cuban Revolution. In his teens, he formed the successful duo "Gema y Pável" with singer Gema Corredera, touring the Americas and Europe, sharing stages with luminaries like Alejandro Sanz and Herbie Hancock. After parting ways with Gema, Pavel embarked on a solo career, crafting a unique musical style that blends Afro-Cuban, Ibero-American, and Mediterranean influences. His discography boasts over 40 compositions across a dozen albums and compilations, showcasing his versatility. Pavel’s collaborative spirit shines through productions for artists like Ana Torroja, Miguel Bosé, and Luis Enrique. Notably, he co-produced the album "Dentro Y Fuera" with Luis Enrique and contributed to John Santos' "Filosofia Caribeña". His artistic contributions go beyond music, including the soundtrack for "Las Noches de Constantinopla." His music documentary, "La Ruta de las Almas", the experimental talking music track by Celia Cruz' "La Bandera Que Canta" and his version of "Virgen Mambisa (Exiliada)" with Haydée Milanés.
