“Virtuosity combined with energy, passion and spirit” Sonic Rising star Tini Thomsen’s latest projects, currently taking the European Festival Circuit by storm are MaxSax with Tom Trapp, Mark Haanstra, Joost Kroon and Nigel Hitchcock (Incognito, Mark Knopfler) and saxophone quartet Q4 with Fiete Felsch, Nigel Hitchcock and Björn Berger. Multi award winning musician, arranger and composer Tini was inspired to start playing saxophone after falling in love with Tony Curtis in ‘Some Like It Hot’’ when she was just 13. Initially interested in tenor sax, she switched to baritone at the age of 15. Three years later after discovering that for her, ‘low’ wasn’t ‘low’ enough, she added bass clarinet to her studies. Collaborations have ranged from playing with The Metropole Orchestra, Brussels Jazz Orchestra and NDR BigBand to performing with Dr John at North Sea Jazz and Montreux Jazz Festival. Notable achievements have been recording her own award winning compositions with The Metropole Orchestra and acting as Musical Director for the German Society for Music in Medicine and Research.
