The acclaimed Austrian Baritone, Martin Achrainer, has garnered an international reputation for his interpretations of contemporary music. His portrayal as Kepler in the world premiere of Philip Glass’ Opera KEPLER was praised by The New York Times: “Achrainer’s first aria takes him nearly to the high and low extremes of his range, a test he handles beautifully.” (November, 2009) Mr. Achrainer began his operatic career at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck (Austria) and the Opéra National de Bordeaux (France). Beginning with the 2008/9 season Mr. Achrainer joined the ensemble of the prestigious Landestheater Linz (Austria). Here he enjoyed portraying the lead roles in an extensive variety of repertoire from Mozart to Wagner, as well as the contemporary works of György Ligeti, Viktor Ullmann and Kaija Saariaho. Equally at home on the concert stage, Mr. Achrainer has graced the international stages of the illustrious Salzburger Festspiele, the Bregenzer Festspiele, the Internationalen Händel-Festspiele in Göttingen, the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, as well as prominent concert halls throughout Europe, Japan and the United States. His performances have led him to sing under the batons of such renowned conductors as Dennis Russell Davies, Kurt Masur, Franz Welser-Möst, Marc Minkowski, James Gaffigan, and Markus Poschner. www.martinachrainer.com
