Biography

Venezuelan/Canadian Composer Clark Ross won the East-Coast Music Award (2014) for “Classical Composition of the Year,” was nominated for a Juno Award (2011) in the same category, and won young composer's awards in national competitions by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. His music has been performed in Japan, Israel, England, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United States, and across Canada, and has been released on a variety of CDs, including "Bookends in Time" (Kristina Szutor, piano; EMI Canada, 2000), "McGillicuddy's Rant" (Daniel Bolshoy, guitar; Centaur, 2008), "Sirocco" (Sylvie Proulx, guitar; Centaur, 2010), "Piano Atlantica" (Barbara Pritchard, piano; Centrediscs, 2010), "Après Scarlatti" (Kristina Szutor, piano; Centaur, 2012), "Full Spectrum" (Vernon Regehr, cello; Centrediscs, 2012), and "Distorted Mirrors" (Alan Klaus-Tephra Colletive, 2017). Clark has worked at Memorial University’s School of Music since 1992, and has taught composition, theory, electronic music, orchestration, and classical guitar, and is a full professor (since 2011). He was awarded Memorial University's President's Award for Outstanding Research (1999). He previously taught at McMaster University, University of Toronto, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. He holds doctorate and master's degrees in composition from the University of Toronto, an ARCT (Composition) diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and a BA in Humanities (U of T).
