Inspired by bands like Ride, The Wedding Present and Swervedriver, Fretblanket hail from the U.K. town of Stourbridge. The four members - Matt Carey (drums), Dave Allsopp (bass), Clive Powell (guitar/vocals), and Will Copley (vocals/guitar) - met as schoolboys around 1987. The band swiftly established a reputation for passionate and intense live performances and were signed to Polygram Records in 1992. Their first album Junkfuel debuted one year later and saw the band touring on both sides of the Atlantic. Home Truths from Abroad followed in 1997, showcasing a more mature style and developing more complex musical and lyrical themes. MTV awarded high ratings to "Into the Ocean," the first single from Home Truths and the band found themselves sharing stages with the likes of The Black Crowes, Radiohead, Weezer and Hole. Fretblanket started work on new material, but with their record label embroiled in corporate wranglings, the band took steps to produce their third album independently with the help of producer Tim Patalan. These songs finally saw the light of day when Fretblanket reunited in 2023, as the new album The Distance In Between.
