The Autos are more than just a band, they are a powerhouse production environment — one that is dedicated to collaborating with international artists to bring more progressive sounds to the reggae genre. In 2021, former Tatanka frontman Ian Gastl started The Autos alongside Pancho Tranmer and Taylor Kaufman of Massif after being diagnosed with cancer and an auto-immune disorder. Since the diagnosis, The Autos have been steady workin’ to create a handful of speciality tracks for Easy Star Records featuring Elliot Martin of John Brown’s Body, Nick Stefakis of Iya Terra, David “Ruff” Scott, and the rising Jamaican emcee, Royal Blu, which resulted in the streaming smash “Dancehall Session.” In 2023, Blu and Gastl followed up “Dancehall Session” with “Artillery,” a hard dub rallying cry against Jamaica’s violent gun culture that saw 15k+ streams in its first month. Now, with Gastl healthy and in remission, The Autos are looking forward to helping Blu embark on his first U.S. tour, complete with a stopover to Cali Vibes fest in Long Beach, California.
