“one of the most distinctive guitar voices in European jazz” – London Jazz News” Keftiu is believed to be the first written mention or name that was given to Crete during ancient times by the Egyptians. This jazz album, titled "Report to Keftiu", is a homage to my home island of Crete. My relationship with Crete is a complicated one. When I was three years old I moved to Sweden from the island with my Mother and older brother. Later during my childhood, and as a young adult, my whole summers, amazing summers, were spent with my Father, brothers and stepmother in Agios Nikolaos Crete. It always felt terrible to leave at the end of the summers. Not only because I was leaving my Greek family, for which I knew would be for a very long time, but also because I was leaving a place that was and is so deeply connected to me. The tunes and titles on this jazz record mention different places and symbols that are connected to Κρήτη and which have special meaning to me. On this album I have had the great privilege of bringing along some of the jazz musicians who I admire the most in Sweden - Martin Höper on double bass, Jonas Östholm on piano and Jon Fält on drums. I’m eternally thankful for how they, with their amazing talent, brought this music to life with me at Atlantis Studio in Stockholm. Photo and design by Pär Wickholm.
