Biography

Tran Manh Tuan was born in Hanoi in a family of stage performance. His father, mother, and sisters performing traditional ”Cai Luong” ( The Renovated Theater ), a theatrical art created in south Vietnam based on song and dance. Tuan began to play saxophone in the 1979 and he was the first Vietnamese musician who received a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, US. He was a member of Orient Band in 1991, which won the gold medal in a national music competition, earning Tuan with the title of “ The Best Saxophonist in Vietnam “ His first solo concert was 1993 at the Opera House in Hanoi. Tuan has release 19 solo CDs and 2 DVD during his career and has collaborated with many well-known Vietnamese singers. His tours have taken him to almost 50 countries including Europe, Japan, Russian, China, Thailand, Singapore, and the United States…. He has performed with numerous musicians, including saxophonist Hans Dulfer and Fulvio Albano, Rob Mullins, Mike Del Frerro and John Ferguson, and Stephan Echer, Co Co York, Jennifer Ryan, Paul Langosch, Mezcal Jazz Unit group, Dana Leong, Denis Mininfield. He had chance to meet and perform with two living legend Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter; Derek Nash, Lillian Boutte, Mr Koh Saxman, Billy Bang, Charlie Bisharat, Dave Grusin & Don Grusin.
