“What would you attempt to do, if you knew you wouldn’t fail” This was the question Gavin asked himself around three years ago, before putting the cubicle day job to one side and launching his music project Sourfish. The answer was to write songs, good melodies and make music that evokes emotion. During the isolation period Gavin has finalised a new EP and accompanying podcast; “What do you Say?” released May 2020. The EP is an eclectic collection of four songs which were finalised during a busking venture to New York and New Orleans. The title track picks up from previously releases with its positive, catchy chorus and its poppy Friends vibes. Angel of My Eye takes us somewhere new, a piano based outing it is a raw, emotional song through the pain and surprise of a split-up opening with “Three Words – It’s over” and its emotional chorus. The songs are sandwiched with the soul vibes of Swim Against the Sea, touching on the spirit of following your own path. Raised in The Highlands of Scotland, Gavin initially picked up the guitar after falling in love with the anthems and melodies of Oasis and the Britpop generation. This opened the doors to their musical influences and led to a fondness of the song-writing talents of The Beatles, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan.
