Singer & Strings

Thirteen Kinds of Desire

Love Dance

Biography

A native of the greater New York Area, singer/actress Pamela Knowles is an expressive jazz-pop vocalist who has generally favored a subtle, relaxed approach. Although Knowles swings, she isn't a belter; her singing has been characterized by restraint rather than aggression. Knowles, who has a B.A. in theater, spent several years acting in New York before moving to London and training at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art. Subsequently, she moved to Australia where she recorded her debut album, Love Dance, for the Larrikin label in 1994. Knowles was still living in Australia when she recorded her next album, Boite de Jazz, which was circulated privately. After moving back to the New York area in 2000, Knowles recorded her third album, Thirteen Kinds of Desire, which finds her singing the words of poet Yusef Komunyakaa. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi
