The Hoy Polloy is an American band formed in 2012 by lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist K Sos and former lead guitarist Nick Romanelli in Miami, Florida. The multi-genre group got its name from the Greek phrase “hoi polloi,” meaning “the masses.” Their first album On the Way to Rome features everything from blues to psychedelic rock, soulful ballads and some of K Sos’s signature hip hop. Their intention: to appeal to music lovers everywhere by refusing to conform to just one genre The group currently includes K Sos, keyboardist and bassist Frankie P., drummer Dave Nordstrom and vocalist KD of the NOC. The Hoy Polloy released their first hip hop album, No Pressure, on August 12th 2018--the one-year anniversary of the passing of K Sos’ father. The group most recently supported Ace Hood, on his 24 date Trust the Process II tour, but has opened for Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Project Pat, GZA, KRS-One, and a number of other notable hip hop artists. On Mood, the fourth track on the album, K Sos raps, “Doing something so unique, turning over a new leaf/It’s my swagger by design, I could never ever leave it, yes I do this all the time” in which he reflects on the group’s innate pursuit of constant change. The band is currently simultaneously working on two new albums Valkyrie, a hip hop collaboration album featuring Jadakiss, AZ, Les Nubians and a slew of local talent, and Kiss the Princess, their new rock album due out Christmas day.
