Biography

Henk Kraaijeveld occupies a unique place in the land of European jazz vocalists with his catchy and at the same time adventurous songs. The award-winning singer disarms his audience with his warm voice and charming stage personality. He brings compelling music together with poetic lyrics and surprising improvisations. For Henk, the narrative character of music is essential because of its ability to connect people with themselves and the world around them. “I am fascinated by our human need to be able to be vulnerable and to be loved as authentic beings with all our potential and flaws. I see this reflected in many (current) social developments. I always try to relate to that in my music and lyrics." You can hear that on the 2023 album “Patches of sky”. The singer scored highly with his debut album Passengers in 2018. Magazine Jazzenzo: …(Kraaijeveld) has developed himself into a very interesting musical personality, (…) embarks on many musical journeys, taking necessary risks together with saxophonist Paul van der Feen. Cutting edge musical interplay, spot on…” Henk grew up with classical choral music and is influenced by artists such as Pat Metheny, Esperanza Spalding, Avishai Cohen, and singers like Sting, Kurt Elling, Bobby McFerrin and his former mentor Peter Eldridge, just to name a few.
Kraaijeveld won both jury- and audience award at the 10th edition of the Dutch Vocal jazz competition in 2013.
