Biography

Raphael Sommer is a Swiss producer and composer. After his school education, he trained as a film editor and actor and went into business for himself as a composer at the age of 19. From the beginning, his focus was on the genres of fantasy and the Middle Ages, in which he was able to fully develop in the form of various soundtracks (e.g. «Die Chronik von Stahl und Feder», «Sons of Paddé», «Dunkelbruch», «Die Suche nach dem Drachenstein»). Since then, Raphael Sommer has expanded his territory, composing music for feature films and documentaries, including «Schweizer Geist» (2013), «Camino de Santiago» (2015), "Ein Königreich macht Schule» (2015), «Der weisse Hirsch vom Gangtrisch» (2019), «Am seidenen Faden» (2020), «2nd Chance» (2020) and many other projects. In 2017 Raphael Sommer went on tour in Switzerland with the concert «Requiem» (a project of the Basel musician Florian Kirchhofer). The follow-up project «Dimension» was premiered at the end of 2022. Both projects were written for orchestra and choir. Currently, Sommer is working as composer and co-producer for the feature film «Plüss» by Martin Albisetti and is composing a neo-classical concerto for 2024. Further projects are in the concept phase.
