Biography

Summoning an imaginative world of percussive rhythms, Mimmo Cafiero has influenced the jazz of Sicily for more than a quarter of a century. He recorded an impressive live album with his trio in 1995 and led his Open Jazz Orchestra on a tour of North America in 1999. The following year, he hosted several concerts by the Duke University Jazz Orchestra. Mimmo Cafiero recorded several records with some of the most important musician of the international jazz scene, performing with them in Europe & North America. Mimmo has performed with Mick Goodrick, Dario Deidda, Mel Lewis, Steve Grossman, Gianni Basso, Maurizio Giammarco, Massimo Urbani, Tony Scott, Curtis Fuller, Paolo Fresu, Bruno Biriaco, Valery Ponomarev, Romano Mussolini, Flavio Boltro, Umberto Fiorentino, Nello Toscano, Riccardo Zegna, Enzo Randisi, Antonello Salis, Cinzia Spata, Mal Waldron, Enrico Rava, Lester Bowie, Emanuele Cisi, Nicola Stilo, Franco D'Andrea, Giampaolo Casati, Marco Tamburini, Maurizio Caldura, Hal Crook, Joey Calderazzo, Gary Smulyan, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Javon Jackson, Paul Jeffrey, Enrico Pieranunzi, Sheila Jordan, Larry Schneider, Giovanni Mazzarino, Bob Mintzer, Fabrizio Bosso, Antonio Zambrini, Danilo Rea, Harvie S, Lee Konitz and many others. Since 1991 is the director of the "Open Jazz Music School" in Palermo.
