Cristina Branco is one of the most important Portuguese artists of recent decades. She began her career in Holland, with Cristina Branco in Holland (1997), which became a success in that country. In the following years, Cristina’s name exploded, with sold-out dates in countless cities. Her following works, Murmúrios (1998) and Post-Scriptum (2000) reinforced this momentum. It was only at the turn of the millennium, with albums like Sensus (2003), that Cristina Branco began to be discovered by the Portuguese public. Comparisons with Amália Rodrigues were inevitable. These were followed by Abril (2007), an album with cover versions of songs by José Afonso, and the iconic Fado Tango (International Version) (2011), which features collaborations with renowned portuguese authors. The album foreshadows Cristina’s artistic rebirth. Considered Best Album of the Year by the Portuguese Author Society, Menina (2016) is part of a trilogy that includes the jovial Branco (2018) and Eva (2020). In these, Cristina brings together unusual collaborations which result in an innovative interpretation of Fado. In 2022 Cristina Branco released Amoras numa Tarde de Outono, an album in collaboration with the pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva. With an unparalleled passion for traditional fado, Cristina Branco pays a heartfelt tribute to this iconic genre of Portuguese culture in her highly anticipated 18th original album, Mãe (2023).
