Biography

Evan Hause is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who fuses experimental classical with progressive rock and jazz. A lifelong songwriter and rocker, he began composing classical scores in earnest during his teenage years, and went off to study music in college, at N.C. School of the Arts, Oberlin, and University of Michigan. He began self-releasing rock albums in 1998 as Hoss - "Adventures of Freddy" (EVHA-1), created in Pittsburg, Kansas, the locale of his first teaching job. He moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1999 and focused again on classical and experimental composition, including three operas ("The Defenestration Trilogy") and many works in multiple genres, such as Coil ( Sole Nero ) and Tango Variations and he created two lauded arrangements for Alarm Will Sound In 2014. After moving to New Jersey, he returned to making rock albums with Dr. Hoss - Dust for Prints (EVHA-2), a 16-song double vinyl. In 2017 he released a 4-song heavy Prog EP, Mad Geography (EVHA-3), followed by a Prog Rock concept album, Plastic Island Pentecost (EVHA-4) in 2018, mixed by John McEntire of Tortoise fame, and involving several guest musicians, including his wife, clarinetist Maureen Hurd, whose classical CD Spelunk - Premieres for Clarinet he produced in 2009. In 2021 he released an EP of jazz compositions, Jade, with the help of 15 guest musicians including the drummer Chris Wabich.
