Waz-u is an artist from London whose sound draws influence from early dub techno records from the 90s as well as classical music. This musical duality mirrors his mixed afro-caribbean and british heritage. Having a musical upbringing, his first instrument was drums, with a focus on reggae and funk music, followed by classical piano. He started producing electronic music in his late teens, initially creating electronica and later techno. His last two releases have been as a drummer with Monzanto Sound on None More Records, a live alternative soul project.He now works from Biodiversity Studio in south London, which is esteemed for its analog hardware setup and most of his tracks are written and mixed with minimal or no use of computers. This allows his sound to have sonic variability, often lacking in contemporary dance music.
